Epic Games has redrawn the second half of Fortnite's competitive year. In an update published on Friday, May 29, 2026, the publisher announced that the 2026 Fortnite Global Championship is moving up to September 26 and 27 and will be played in Antwerp, Belgium. To make room, the second Major of the season starts earlier, on July 18, and the third Major disappears, replaced by an online Last Chance tournament.

The Global Championship is the event that ends the season of the FNCS, Epic's own competitive series for the game. The update covers far more than one date: it sets out who qualifies and when, adds a solo tournament in October, and introduces a worldwide ranking of players that goes live on June 5.

What moves on the calendar

Four events are concerned, and Epic gives a date or a month for each. FNCS Major 2 is moved up: it begins on Saturday, July 18, and its finals are played on August 1 and 2. A Major is one of the large qualifying tournaments of the FNCS season, played in Duos, meaning teams of two.

FNCS Major 3 is removed from the schedule as such. In its place comes the FNCS Global Championship Last Chance tournament, which starts on Monday, August 3, the day after the Major 2 finals end. It is played online and, like the Major, in Duos.

The Global Championship itself follows on the last weekend of September, a Saturday and a Sunday. And a new event closes the year: FNCS Solos, a standalone online tournament planned for October 2026, after the Global Championship, in which players compete alone for the Battle Royale crown of their region. Epic says its format and schedule will be announced later through the official Fortnite Competitive accounts.

Epic Games, May 29, 2026. The Last Chance tournament replaces FNCS Major 3.

From the first day of Major 2 to the last day in Antwerp, the whole run-in now fits into ten weeks and a day, with just under eight weeks between the end of the Major 2 finals and the first day of the championship.

Two routes to Antwerp

The update is precise about how places in Belgium are won. Epic's sentence on the Major is short: "The top 25 Duos will secure spots at the Global Championship." The Last Chance tournament then selects what the publisher calls the final 10 Duos of the Antwerp lineup.

Those two routes account for 35 Duos, or 70 players. The announcement gives no larger total for the field and no split of the places between Fortnite's competitive regions; it refers players to the official FNCS 2026 rules for the full detail of Major 2 and of the Last Chance tournament.

There is a step before the Major, too. Under the tournaments of the coming in-game season, Epic lists the FNCS Divisional Cups, in which players are seeded into divisions according to their earlier results. Division 1 is the gate: it is the division that qualifies players for Major 2, and the one that pays cash prizes. A duo that wants to be in Antwerp in September therefore has a path in three stages, from Division 1 to the Major, and from the Major, or failing that the Last Chance tournament, to the championship.

For those who miss both, the October solo tournament is new ground. Epic presents it as a standalone competition with its own regional titles, held once the championship is over.

Why September

Epic gives one reason for the move, and it has to do with the game's own calendar. Fortnite is updated in seasons, and its competitions are organized around them. The publisher says the new date lines the Global Championship up with a Battle Royale season that starts at the end of summer.

Battle Royale is the mode that gives the genre its name: many players share one map, and the last ones standing win the match. In competition a team's score adds up over several matches, as it did at last year's championship. The update presents the earlier date as a matter of timing only: the championship is brought forward so that it sits with the start of that season instead of falling later in the year. Epic does not say which date it had first planned.

The announcement does not name the arena. It says only that the event is in Antwerp, and that ticket pre-registration is open through a presale page. No prize pool is given for the championship or for any of the tournaments that lead to it.

From Lyon and trios to Antwerp and duos

Last season offers a point of comparison. The 2025 Global Championship was held in Lyon, France, at the LDLC Arena, in early September, as Esports Insider reported on August 4, 2025. It was played in trios, teams of three: 33 of them qualified, which makes 99 players. The format was 12 matches, with points awarded for eliminations and for final placement.

In 2025 the third Major was still a full event. Esports Insider's account of its grand finals shows seven regions, Europe, NA Central, NA West, Brazil, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, each with its own final and its own winners, and places in Lyon handed out region by region: 12 trios qualified through that Major. Four came from Europe, two each from NA Central and Oceania, and one each from NA West, Brazil, Asia and the Middle East.

Two things have changed since. The team size is now two. The same outlet reported on August 6, 2025 that the Divisional Cups were switching to Duos with the season that began the next day, and the 2026 update speaks of Duos throughout. And the third qualifying Major has given way to a single Last Chance event worth ten places, played from August 3, in the same early-August slot in which the 2025 Major 3 finals were played.

A world ranking from June 5

The second big announcement of the update is not a tournament. On June 5, Epic launches Power Rankings: a single global leaderboard, published on the web and updated every week.

A player's position is built from their 20 best results in Battle Royale and Reload tournaments, plus their seasonal tier in Ranked, the game's ladder, in both modes. Reload is another mode of the game, with its own tournaments and its own Ranked ladder. Epic adds that recent results and the overall difficulty of a tournament weigh on a placement, and that players will be able to follow their own standing, share it and track others.

New rank

Unreal Legend asks for three things in the same season

Epic introduces the Unreal Legends rank next season. A player must reach the Unreal rank, hold a Skill Rating of at least 2,500 and place in the Top 500 of the Unreal leaderboard, all within one Ranked season. Falling below any of the three removes the status.

Ranked also counts for entry to tournaments, and Epic touches that rule as well. Later this year, eligibility for tournaments will take into account both the current season's rank and the previous one, using whichever is higher for the following season. Skill Rating, the number behind the ranks, now carries over when ranks are reset at the start of a season, and matchmaking pairs players of similar skill.

Two smaller items complete the picture. A reward called the Axe of Unreal goes to players who reach Unreal for the first time from next season, with a further tier for doing it again the season after, separately in Battle Royale and in Reload. And the screen shown after a match will display Ranked progress, including the effect of eliminations and of placement.

Reload in Paris and the rest of the summer

The update also lists the tournaments of the in-game season that is about to begin, and one of them leads to another city. Reload Elite Series Qualifier 4 is the last qualifier for the Reload Elite Championship, which Epic places in August at the Esports World Cup in Paris, France.

That location is itself nine days old. The Esports World Cup Foundation confirmed on May 20, as HLTV reported that day, that its 2026 festival was leaving Riyadh for Paris. The festival had been announced for July 6 to August 23, according to Esports Insider in February, and a foundation spokesperson quoted by HLTV said a slight shift in the schedule was possible.

So Fortnite's summer now has two in-person finals in western Europe within weeks of each other: the Reload championship in Paris in August, then the Battle Royale championship in Antwerp in late September. The Paris event is held inside a multi-game festival run by another organizer; Antwerp is the FNCS's own final.

Around those, Epic gives a string of dates. Performance Evaluation Cups resume on June 7. The Mobile Series resumes on June 12, with details to come. An FNCS Community Cup is set for July 31, the eve of the Major 2 finals, to mark the occasion. Solo Victory Cups return with cash prizes for wins, Ranked Cups run all season, and the publisher promises more Zero Build tournaments and more cups reserved for PlayStation players. Full schedules, it says, are in the Compete tab inside the game.
