Australia will play the world finals of the FIFAe World Cup in Rocket League after winning the Asian Continental Championship in Kuala Lumpur without dropping a single game, Sheep Esports reported on Sunday, August 23, 2026. In the final, the Australians beat Jordan four games to none. Jordan qualified as runners-up, and Oman took the third Asian place through an intercontinental playoff against New Zealand, which it won 4-2.
The three nations join Saudi Arabia, which has its place as the host nation. That makes four teams confirmed for the final stage of FIFA's national team competition in Rocket League, the car football game published by Psyonix, in which teams of players drive rocket-powered cars and try to push an oversized ball into the opposing goal.

Three Asian places, three different routes
The Asian Continental Championship handed out its places in three ways, and each of the qualified nations took a different one.
A word on the scores first. A Rocket League match between two national teams is played as a series of games, and the score counts the games each side won: 4-0 means one team took four games and the other none.
Australia took the most direct route. According to Sheep Esports, it went through the whole event in Kuala Lumpur without losing a game, a run that ended with the clean sweep over Jordan in the grand final.
Jordan qualified by reaching that final. Its place among the qualified teams came from its result as runner-up, so the defeat by Australia in the last match did not cost it anything in terms of qualification. On the way, the Jordanians had beaten Malaysia, playing at home, four games to one in the playoffs.

It finished third in the main event in Kuala Lumpur, which was not enough on its own, and then played what Sheep Esports calls a separate Intercontinental Playoff against New Zealand. Oman won it 4-2, the closest of the series that decided the Asian places.
The results that decided the three places can be set side by side.
| Match | Result | What it decided |
|---|---|---|
| Playoff | Malaysia 4-0 Indonesia | Indonesia out |
| Playoff | Jordan 4-1 Malaysia | Jordan on to the final |
| Third-place decider | Oman 4-0 Malaysia | Malaysia out |
| Grand final | Australia 4-0 Jordan | Australia and Jordan qualified |
| Intercontinental Playoff | Oman 4-2 New Zealand | Oman qualified |
Sheep Esports, August 23, 2026. The order of the playoff matches follows the outlet's account of Malaysia's run.
Malaysia miss their place
The table shows where the event turned for Malaysia. The Malaysians had reached the continental stage through the Asia East and Oceania Nations League, according to Sheep Esports, but they finished third in a group that, according to the outlet, also included the Maldives, India and Indonesia.
The playoffs started well. Malaysia beat Indonesia four games to none and so stayed in the race. Jordan then beat them 4-1, which sent them to the third-place decider, where Oman won 4-0. That last defeat, Sheep Esports wrote, ended Malaysia's hopes of reaching the world finals.
How FIFA's national team season works
The FIFAe World Cup is FIFA's own competition for national teams in esports, and it is not played in one game only. FIFA crowns three world champions at each edition of its finals: one in Rocket League and two in eFootball, a football game played in a console competition and a mobile one.
The teams represent FIFA's member associations, the national football federations, rather than clubs. When it confirmed the finals of 2025 and 2026 in July 2025, FIFA said its qualification structure was meant to let more of those member associations compete for a place in the final event, through a qualification period of several months with local and regional activities.

Sheep Esports explained in July 2026 that FIFAe would add an extra stage in August and September, called the Continental Championships, before the world finals. The Asian event in Kuala Lumpur has produced the first qualified nations in Rocket League: with the host, Sheep Esports counts them as the first four confirmed teams.
- Regional qualifyingNations reach Kuala Lumpur through earlier competitions. Malaysia came through the Asia East and Oceania Nations League.
- Continental ChampionshipAustralia won the event and Jordan finished second: both qualified. Oman, third, went on to a playoff.
- Intercontinental PlayoffOman met New Zealand for the last Asian place. The winner joins the qualified nations and the host.
The host nation does not go through any of this. Saudi Arabia is listed by Sheep Esports as the host and as one of the first four confirmed teams.
Two editions of FIFAe in Rocket League
Rocket League is a recent addition to FIFA's program. Sheep Esports recalled that the partnership began in 2024, after FIFA decided not to renew its licensing agreement with Electronic Arts. Since then, FIFAe has organized two World Cups in the game, and Sheep Esports described the 2026 edition in July as the third, already in motion.
Both were played in Riyadh, which has hosted the event for the past two years, according to the same report. The first Rocket League title went to Saudi Arabia, the host, in 2024, FIFA said in its release of July 2025. That year Indonesia won the eFootball console title and Malaysia the eFootball mobile title, according to the same release.
The second edition, the FIFAe Finals 25, ran from December 10 to 19, 2025 at the SEF Arena in Riyadh. FIFA had announced 16 national teams for the Rocket League tournament, beside 12 nations for each of the two eFootball competitions. France won the Rocket League World Cup with a team made up of Zen, Vatira and Juicy, FIFA announced on December 19, 2025. Thailand won the eFootball mobile competition and Poland the console one.

The partners behind the event
FIFA does not run the finals alone. Its release of July 2025 named the Saudi Esports Federation, which it called a committed long-term partner, as its partner for the FIFAe Finals in 2025 and 2026, and the 2025 edition was played at the SEF Arena in Riyadh.
The same release said the finals had been confirmed for two seasons at once, 2025 and 2026, and that free-to-play titles, games that cost nothing to download and play, were being brought into the program. Christian Volk, FIFA's director of eFootball and gaming, said in the release that fan feedback after the 2024 event had confirmed FIFA's vision of providing a home for football esports.
The same nations, another national event
Two of the three new qualifiers have also been busy in the other national team competition of the summer. On July 21, 2026, Sheep Esports reported that Jordan and Oman had both come through the Middle East qualifier of the Esports Nations Cup in Rocket League, beside Iraq and Bahrain. That qualifier was one of six regional events played from July 17 to 19 for 22 places in a 48-team main event with a prize pool of US$1,320,000.
The Asian qualifier of the same competition sent Indonesia, the Maldives and India through, three nations that also appeared in Kuala Lumpur.
That calendar has since changed: on August 18, the Esports Foundation postponed the first Esports Nations Cup, which had been planned in Riyadh in November 2026, to November 2027, without exact dates.
The two competitions choose their nations differently. In the Esports Nations Cup, 24 of the 48 places went to direct invitations, based on the points earned in 2026 on the RLCS, Psyonix's professional circuit, by each nation's three best players. Two solidarity slots were kept for eligible countries that had not qualified in more than one game of the event, and one qualifier place went to the highest-ranked Gulf Cooperation Council nation that had not come through the Middle East qualifier, the United Arab Emirates. FIFA's route is open to the national teams of its member associations and runs through regional and continental events, with a place set aside for the host.
The FIFAe World Cup is a separate competition, run by FIFA with the Saudi Esports Federation, with its own qualifying route and its own finals.
What comes next
Asia is only one continent. The extra stage of Continental Championships runs through August and September, according to Sheep Esports, and each of the other events adds its own nations to the four already confirmed.
The world finals themselves are expected to be played in Riyadh in October, Sheep Esports wrote in its report from Kuala Lumpur, while noting that the location had not yet been confirmed. When FIFA confirmed the 2026 edition in July 2025, the Saudi Esports Federation's products executive director, Meshal Alqabbani, spoke in the same release of hosting the finals through 2026.
