The second half of the Valorant league season in the Americas starts on Thursday, July 16, 2026, and it will not look like the first. Riot Games, the game's publisher, posted its guide to VCT Americas Stage 2 on Wednesday, June 24. Only four of the league's twelve teams go straight from the groups to the playoffs. The eight others must first get through a Play-In, a qualifying bracket they share with four teams from Challengers, the circuit below the league.

The stage also leaves home at the end. The matches begin at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, the league's home, and finish in São Paulo, Brazil, from September 4 to September 6. "For the first time ever, VCT Americas Finals will take place outside Los Angeles," the guide says.

VCT Americas is one of the four international leagues of the Valorant Champions Tour, the game's worldwide professional circuit, shortened to VCT. Stage 2 is its last league phase of the year, and it decides who goes to Champions Shanghai, the world championship.

What changes from Stage 1

Stage 1, played from April 10, was the simpler of the two. Riot's guide to it, published on March 19, split the twelve teams into two groups of six and sent the top four of each group to a double-elimination playoff, a bracket in which a team is out only after its second defeat. Eight of the twelve teams reached that bracket, and three of them qualified for Masters London, the global tournament played in June.

Stage 2 keeps the two groups, again named Alpha and Omega, and again set by a broadcast draw the guide calls the Stage 2 Draw Show. What changes is how much a group placing is worth.

Only the top two of each group advance directly to the playoffs. The two group winners receive a bye, a free pass through the first round. The two second-placed teams start in the first round of the upper bracket.

Every other team goes to the Play-In. With four teams qualified directly, that means the eight league teams placed third to sixth in their groups. The guide says they compete there alongside the top four Challengers teams from across the Americas, in a double-elimination bracket. Eight and four make a Play-In of twelve.

The guide does not say how many teams leave the Play-In for the playoffs, and it prints no match calendar. It sends readers to the schedule on Riot's esports site.

Four Challengers teams, and where they come from

The arrival of Challengers teams is the largest change of the 2026 season, and Riot announced it long before this guide. In its presentation of the season, published on December 2, 2025, the publisher said that Challengers teams would now reach Champions by qualifying for the Stage 2 playoffs of their territory, and that Ascension, the promotion tournament used until then, was removed. Each territory sends four.

For the Americas, the December presentation set out how the four places are shared:

  1. one for the top Challengers team of North America;
  2. one for the top Challengers team of Brazil;
  3. one for Latin America, played for by the top teams of its northern and southern leagues;
  4. one through a Last Chance Qualifier between the second seed of North America, the second seed of Brazil and the loser of the Latin American final.

A Challengers team that qualifies receives a stipend of US$75,000 for travel, visas and attendance, according to the same presentation. Academy teams, the development rosters run by league organizations, cannot take this route, though they still play in their regional Challengers leagues.

The guide to Stage 2 uses the word Play-In for the bracket where the two worlds meet. It names none of the four Challengers teams.

Worth knowing

The EMEA league gives its Play-In a seeding

The format of VCT EMEA Stage 2, published by Riot on June 25, also has eight league teams and four Challengers teams in a twelve-team Play-In. There, the Challengers teams start in the first round and the third and fourth of each group get a bye. The Americas guide states no such order.

The four routes to Champions Shanghai

The guide puts the purpose of the stage in one line: every team enters it with one goal, a place at Champions Shanghai. It lists four ways in for the Americas.

Two come from the bracket: the Stage 2 champion and the Stage 2 runner-up. Two come from the season as a whole: the teams ranked first and second in Championship Points, the points collected at each competition of the year.

That matches what Riot said in December for all four leagues, two teams through the Stage 2 playoffs and two through points. For a Challengers team, the December presentation describes one route: qualifying for the Stage 2 playoffs of its territory and going through the bracket. If one reaches the final in São Paulo, it takes one of the two bracket places.

The guide calls Champions Shanghai the biggest tournament yet and the first to bring league teams and Challengers teams together on one stage.

Three days in São Paulo

Riot announced the location on June 11, in a separate page on ticket sales. The Finals are played at the Suhai Music Hall, on Avenida das Nações Unidas in São Paulo. Matches begin at 10 am Pacific time on each of the three days.

A best-of-three is won by the first team to take two maps, a map being one full game of Valorant. A best-of-five needs three.

The weekend therefore holds four matches for four teams. Two of them arrive through the upper bracket, undefeated in the playoffs, and play each other on Friday. The two others meet in the Lower Bracket Semifinal the same day, and the winner plays the loser of the upper final on Saturday.

It is not the first time the league's teams have played in the city. The ticket page recalls VCT LOCK//IN, the tournament Riot held in São Paulo in 2023. The same page says it is the first time VCT Americas is played outside Los Angeles.

What a seat costs

General sale opened on June 18 through Ticketmaster's Brazilian site. The floor is sold seat by seat, in two categories, and the mezzanine as private booths for up to six people.

Riot Games, June 11, 2026. Full prices; floor seats are also listed at half price.

Every price of the Grand Final is 10 percent above the price of the first two days: R$198 against R$180 for a floor seat, R$462 against R$420 for a Mezzanine 1 booth. The two floor categories are also listed at half price, from R$90, without the page saying who qualifies.

Purchases are limited per CPF, the Brazilian taxpayer number used to identify a buyer: four floor tickets or two mezzanine tickets. Guests under 16 must come with an adult. Riot lists meet-and-greets with players, team booths, an artists' alley and an official store on site across the three days.

Tickets for the earlier part of the stage, at the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles, go on sale on Friday, June 26 at 12 pm Pacific time through the ticketing company Tixr, the Stage 2 guide says.

The teams the guide singles out

The guide names three of the twelve teams in its text. The composition of the two groups appears only in a graphic.

Leviatán enters Stage 2 as the winner of Masters London, which ended on June 21 at the Copper Box Arena. The field Riot published before that tournament listed three Americas teams, Leviatán, G2 Esports and NRG. Leviatán was the one of the three that had not played at Masters Santiago in March, where FURIA held the third Americas place.

G2 Esports, the guide says, aims to defend its VCT Americas crown. NRG is presented as a team long considered a global power. The guide describes the Americas as widely regarded as the most successful region in international Valorant, and notes that it holds both the Masters London title and the current Champions title.

For all three, the new format raises the price of a slow start. In Stage 1, a fourth place in the group was enough to reach the playoffs. In Stage 2, third place already means the Play-In, and extra series before the playoffs even begin.

A season that prepares the next one

The format arrives in a year of transition. On June 18, six days before the Stage 2 guide, Riot detailed the 2027 Valorant Champions Tour, in which long league play gives way to an open model built on tournaments called Cups. In the Americas, the opening Kickoff of 2027 will have twelve teams, eight partner teams and four that come through Open Qualifiers.

Stage 2 brings the two kinds of team together a season earlier: four Challengers teams join the league's twelve this summer, for one stage, with a fixed stipend. Riot's 2027 plan sets fixed payments to open teams for each event they qualify for, US$100,000 for a Kickoff or a Cup.

The broadcast stays as it was. The league is shown on its official Twitch and YouTube channels in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and creators who want to show the matches on their own channels, a practice called co-streaming, apply through forms that differ by region. The guide lists eight partners for the stage: Red Bull, Secretlab, Verizon, Pulsar, ExpressVPN, HP, Samsung and ZOWIE, the last as monitor supplier under a new multi-year agreement.

The first matches are on July 16 in Los Angeles. The last one is the Grand Final of September 6 in São Paulo.
