Four of the twelve teams of VCT EMEA will be finished with Stage 1 before its playoffs begin. That is the hardest line of the format Riot Games, the publisher of Valorant, posted on Friday, March 20, 2026 for the first league phase of its 2026 season in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The group stage runs from April 1 to May 1, the playoffs from May 7 to May 17.
VCT EMEA is one of the four international leagues of the Valorant Champions Tour, the game's worldwide professional circuit, usually shortened to VCT. Stage 1 is the first of the two league phases of the year. It ends with three places at Masters London, the second global tournament of the season, which Riot's page describes as played on the home turf of the EMEA region.
The page covers the format, the dates, the points and the ticket prices.

Five weeks, five matches each
The twelve teams are split into two groups of six, named Alpha and Omega. Each group is a single round robin: every team meets the five others of its group once. Every match is a best-of-three, a series won by the first team to take two maps, a map being one full game of Valorant.
The group stage, which Riot calls the Regular Season, lasts five weeks. It opens on Wednesday, April 1 and closes on Friday, May 1, with matches played from Wednesday to Friday.
The arithmetic of the format is simple. Six teams that each face five opponents once produce 15 series per group, and 30 across the two groups. Five weeks of three match days make 15 days of play, so the 30 series average two per day.

The top four of each group, eight teams in all, go on to the playoffs.
For the four teams that go out, the format leaves no way back into Stage 1 and no route to London. Riot's presentation of the 2026 season, published on December 2, 2025, said the same of all four leagues: the bottom two of each group get no playoffs and no chance at Masters London.
Who is in which group
The format page does not list the groups. They were set in February, and Esports Insider published them for the four leagues on February 16, 2026.
| Group | Teams |
|---|---|
| Alpha | Gentle Mates, Team Liquid, Team Heretics, Natus Vincere, Karmine Corp, FUT Esports |
| Omega | BBL Esports, Fnatic, Team Vitality, GIANTX, ULF Esports, PCIFIC Esports |

The groups were not chosen by the league. According to Esports Insider, each league held a draw after the lower bracket final of its Kickoff, the tournament that opened the season in January. The draw used seeding pools built from the Kickoff results: of the two teams that finished eleventh and twelfth, for example, the first drawn went to Group Alpha and the second to Group Omega.
The three EMEA teams that played at Masters Santiago, the first global event of the year, are split two to one. Riot's guide to that tournament, published on February 20, listed BBL Esports, Gentle Mates and Team Liquid as the region's representatives. Gentle Mates and Team Liquid share Group Alpha. BBL Esports is in Omega, the group Esports Insider called the more stacked of the two, citing Fnatic and GIANTX.

Riot's December presentation named four newly ascended teams for 2026, the ones promoted from the lower circuit, and two of them, ULF Esports and PCIFIC Esports, appear in the EMEA draw. Both landed in Group Omega.
A bracket where seeding buys a second chance
The playoffs are what Riot calls a modified double-elimination bracket. In a double-elimination bracket a team is out only after its second defeat: a first loss sends it from the upper bracket to the lower bracket, and a loss there ends its run.
The modification is that not every team starts with that safety net. The page says the results of the Regular Season set the seeding, and that the seeding also determines how many lives each team has in the playoffs. A life, in this vocabulary, is a defeat a team can afford.
| Group placing | Starting point |
|---|---|
| First | Bye to Upper Bracket Round 2 |
| Second and third | Opening Round of the upper bracket |
| Fourth | Lower Bracket |
| Fifth and sixth | Not qualified, out after the groups |

The two group winners skip the first round. A bye is a free pass: they wait in the second round of the upper bracket while the others play. The teams placed second and third meet in the Opening Round. The two fourth-placed teams begin in the lower bracket, where a single lost series sends them home.
So the last weeks of the groups carry three different stakes at once. Finishing fourth rather than fifth keeps a team in the stage. Finishing third rather than fourth is worth a second life. Finishing first is worth a round of rest and one series fewer on the way to the final.
Playoff series are best-of-three, with two exceptions. The Lower Bracket Final and the Stage Final are best-of-five, won by the first team to take three maps.

The guide to VCT Americas Stage 1, published by Riot on March 19, also sends the top four of each group to a double-elimination playoff, but states no bye and no lower-bracket start. Each league publishes its own bracket rules.
The calendar from April 1 to May 17
After the last group match on May 1, the league takes a one-week break. The playoffs then run over two weeks, from Thursday, May 7 to Sunday, May 17.
The first playoff week is played from Thursday to Sunday. The second is the Finals Weekend, from Friday to Sunday. Show days start at 17:00 Central European Summer Time. The last two days start an hour later, at 18:00, and each of them holds one best-of-five: by the format, the Lower Bracket Final and then the Stage Final.
The page names no venue. When Riot announced on February 12 that the Stage 2 Finals would be played near Barcelona at the end of August, it presented the move as VCT EMEA leaving Berlin for its finals and as the league's first major arena event.
Tickets cost €15 for most of the stage and between €20 and €30 for the finals, according to the format page.
Championship Points and the road to Shanghai
Stage 1 pays twice. Beside the three places in London, it awards Championship Points, the points collected over the season that count toward qualification for Champions Shanghai, the world championship that closes the year.
The EMEA page gives the scale for the stage. Each match won in the Regular Season is worth 1 point, tiebreaker matches excluded. In the playoffs, the winner takes 6 points, the runner-up 4, the third-placed team 3 and the fourth 2.
A team that wins its five group matches and then the stage would therefore add 11 points, 5 from the groups and 6 from the title. A team that goes out in fifth or sixth place of its group keeps only the points of the matches it won.

Riot said in December that in each league two teams qualify through the Stage 2 playoffs and two through Championship Points. Stage 2, it added, is the last chance to qualify, and its playoffs are played as a live event in a new location.
The page also gives the order of the standings before the first match of Stage 1, without totals: BBL Esports first, Gentle Mates second, Team Liquid third and Fnatic fourth. The first three are the teams that represented the region at Masters Santiago, where each playoff win earned points.
Three places at Masters London
Riot announced the details of Masters London on March 15. The tournament is played from June 6 to June 21 at the Copper Box Arena, with twelve teams from the four leagues: VCT Americas, VCT EMEA, VCT Pacific and VCT CN, the Chinese league. That is three teams per league, the same number as at Santiago. Riot said in December that London would use the Santiago format.
For the EMEA teams, it is the one global event of 2026 played in their own region. Santiago was in Chile, and Champions is in Shanghai. General sale of tickets for London opens on March 27 through Ticketmaster, the Masters announcement said, with prices from £10 on a weekday for a seat with a slightly obstructed view to £125 for the best tier on the day of the grand final.
Three places for eight playoff teams means the bracket is not only about the trophy. A team can lose the Stage Final and still travel to London. It can also win its group, lose twice in the playoffs and stay home.
The other three leagues play their own Stage 1 for the same reward. In the Americas, Riot's guide sets the start of Stage 1 for April 10, nine days after the EMEA league, and names the Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles as that league's live venue.
Stage 2 and the first finals away from Berlin
The year does not stop for the four teams eliminated on May 1. Stage 2 is the second league phase, and it is built differently. Riot's December presentation said each territory sends four Challengers teams, the teams of the lower circuit, to the Stage 2 playoffs, where they face the league's teams for places at Champions. For EMEA, those four are the top seeds of Challengers EMEA by points and placement.
The February 12 announcement added the setting. The Stage 2 Finals are scheduled for August 28 to 30 at the Olimpic Arena in Badalona, in the Barcelona metropolitan area, a hall built for the 1992 Olympic Games. Riot said it is the first time Challengers teams have the opportunity to qualify for the VCT EMEA playoffs.
Before that, the league has its own spring to play. The first matches are on Wednesday, April 1, and the three EMEA names for London will be known by May 17.
