PUBG Mobile, the battle royale played on phones, whose esports circuit is separate from that of PUBG: Battlegrounds, has a new head of global esports and a new route to its world championship. In a season rundown relayed by Esports Insider on February 11, 2026, the game's esports team named Oliver Ye as Tencent Games' Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports, and set out where the four main events of 2026 will be played and how teams will earn their places at the last of them.
The headline change sits in the qualification system. From 2026, the points that lead to the PUBG Mobile Global Championship, known as PMGC, come only from two kinds of events: the PUBG Mobile Global Open, or PMGO, and the PUBG Mobile World Cup, or PMWC. Regional leagues no longer send teams straight to the championship. The first Global Open of the year will hold its Main Event in Indonesia, and the PMGC itself will be played in Turkey with 38 teams.

A change at the top of PUBG Mobile esports
As in earlier years, James Yang presented the season roadmap. This time he also said that he has moved to the game's publishing division, Esports Insider reported. His successor in the esports role is Oliver Ye.
According to the same report, Ye has spent more than seven years at Tencent Games, most recently as Senior Publishing Director for North America. His new title is Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports. In the roadmap video, he said that the mission for 2026 is to bring more players from around the world into PUBG Mobile esports. The rundown gives no date for the handover.

The new director takes over a season whose calendar was already partly public, and whose rules for reaching the championship have just changed. The first open qualifiers of 2026 had closed their registration two days before the announcement.
Four events, two of them new in shape
The outline of the season was first given in December. On December 12, 2025, Esports Insider reported that the 2026 PUBG Mobile season would be split into two halves, each with national and regional qualifiers leading to a Global Open. Krafton said more than 30 PUBG Mobile National Championship events would be held across more than eight regions, and that winners of the regional finals would earn places at the Global Opens. Professional teams would be invited to national and regional qualifiers on the strength of their 2025 season.
The February rundown fills in the places. The first Global Open, which the December report had placed in Southeast Asia without naming a host, now has Indonesia for its Main Event. The second goes to Pakistan. The World Cup returns inside the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia, and the PMGC, the last event of the season, goes to Turkey.
| Event | Host | Teams | Prize pool |
|---|---|---|---|
| Global Open, Season 1 | Indonesia | 32 | US$500,000 |
| PUBG Mobile World Cup | Esports World Cup, Saudi Arabia | 32 | US$3 million |
| Global Open, Season 2 | Pakistan | Not announced | US$500,000 |
| Global Championship | Turkey | 38 | US$3 million |
Prize pools from the 2026 roadmap reported by Esports Insider on December 12, 2025; hosts and team counts from its reports of February 6 and 11, 2026.
Together, the four prize pools come to US$7 million, the total Esports Insider gave in December. The two Global Opens carry the smaller amounts. What they gain in 2026 is weight: they are now the main source of the points that decide the championship field.
How points now lead to the Global Championship
Regional leagues no longer feed directly into the PMGC, according to the February rundown. PMGC points are earned only through the Global Opens and the World Cup. Within a Global Open, they come from both the regional finals and the Main Event, so a team that reaches the regional final stage but not the Main Event can still collect some.

Those regions use criteria based on their own local tournaments, Esports Insider reported, without listing them. The rundown also creates a tri-national competition between South Korea, Japan and India, and two of its teams will be invited to the League Stage of the PMGC.
The path of a team from the open qualifiers to the championship therefore runs through five levels.
- In-game qualifiersOpen to players through the tournament tab of the game. Played in March for the first season.
- National and regional eventsThe open route leads to national or regional Global Open events, where invited professional teams also enter.
- Regional finalsThe last stop before the offline Main Event. They already award PMGC points.
- Global Open Main EventThirty-two teams, offline. More PMGC points are at stake.
- Global ChampionshipTeams with the points, plus invited ones, meet in Turkey for the last event of the season.
The World Cup sits beside this ladder as the second source of points, and the season holds two Global Opens, the second one in Pakistan.
Inside the first Global Open
Registration for the first Global Open opened through the game's own tournament tab and closed on February 9, Esports Insider reported on February 6. The in-game qualifiers are scheduled for March 2026, and players who take part receive cosmetic rewards, among them an avatar frame and a player info card. The best teams then reach the Season 1 Regional Finals.
The Main Event runs from June 2 to 7. It brings 32 teams to an offline stage, with a US$500,000 prize pool. The format starts with two groups of 16. In a battle royale, many squads land on the same map and score points for where they finish and for each opponent they eliminate, so a group stage is a set of such matches with a points table at the end. The top six of each group go straight to the Grand Finals. The teams placed seventh to fourteenth in each group play a one-day Survival Stage, and four of them take the last places. That makes 16 teams in the Grand Finals: twelve through the groups and four through the Survival Stage.

A World Cup with invitations and a defending champion
The World Cup keeps its place inside the Esports World Cup, the multi-game event in Saudi Arabia. Its organizer set the 2026 edition for July 6 to August 23, with a total prize pool of US$75 million across all its games, an increase of US$5 million on 2025, according to Esports Insider's report of January 20. The December roadmap placed the PUBG Mobile tournament in Riyadh, after the first season, with US$3 million on offer.
It will have 32 teams. The February rundown names who receives invitations: teams from China, India, Japan and Korea, a further place listed for Korea and Japan together, and the defending champion, Yangon Galacticos.
That last invitation goes to the 2025 champion. Yangon Galacticos, the only team from Myanmar at the 2025 World Cup in Riyadh, finished 11th in the group stage and eighth in the Survival Stage, according to Esports Insider's account of August 11, 2025. They qualified for the Grand Finals by a single point, after placing third in the final game of the Survival Stage. They then won the title over three days, finishing ahead of Weibo Gaming in the overall standings, and took home more than US$540,000 in winnings.
Organizers, the championship and what comes next
The PMGC remains the season's last stop. The 2025 edition began on November 24, and its Grand Finals brought the last 16 teams to Bangkok from December 12 to 14, with Dplus, the defending champion, among them, Esports Insider reported at the time. The 2026 edition moves to Turkey and grows to 38 teams, including the two invited from the tri-national competition, who enter at the League Stage. The rundown gives no city, dates or format for it.
Related readSupercell Launches Brawl Stars Challengers as New Pro PathwayThe December season plan also promises upgraded support from Krafton for third-party tournaments, the events run by independent organizers. That builds on a step taken in November. On November 3, 2025, PUBG Mobile Esports revealed a dedicated platform for organizers who want to host third-party tournaments, Esports Insider reported the next day. Organizers submit the details of their event, including its prize pool, and the platform aims to approve applications within three to seven days. An approved event can then apply for official Room Cards for its matches, and receives promotion on PUBG Mobile's official social channels, technical support and live match data. Online and offline events qualify, with or without a stream, as do collegiate and school tournaments, showmatches and company team-building contests. The December roadmap also lists an upgrade of the in-game system players use to enter tournaments, and better entertainment at offline events.
For 2025, the publisher Level Infinite had announced 22 regional grassroots tournaments across five regions and US$10 million in prize money for the year's circuit, according to the November report. That figure covered the whole circuit, while the US$7 million of 2026 covers only the four main events, so the two cannot be read side by side.
The next dates are already set. The in-game qualifiers of the first Global Open start in March, the Regional Finals follow, and the Main Event opens in Indonesia on June 2. The World Cup comes in the summer at the Esports World Cup, and the second Global Open in Pakistan and the 38-team championship in Turkey close the season.
