A Polish arena has put its name on the Counter-Strike 2 calendar of 2027. Atlas Arena, in the city of Lodz, announced on May 17, 2026 that it will host PGL Lodz 2027, a tournament run by the Romanian organizer PGL from March 18 to 28, 2027. The last three days, March 26 to 28, are the ones played in the arena in front of the public.
The venue describes the event as one of the largest esports events in the world and presents it as PGL's return to Poland after PGL Krakow 2017. Sixteen teams from around the world will take part, with a base prize pool of US$1 million.
Atlas Arena announcement of May 17, 2026.
What the arena announced
The announcement came from the building, not from the tournament organizer. Atlas Arena published it on its own news page under a title that says the world of Counter-Strike returns to Poland. The page names the tournament, the organizer, the game, the field size, the money and the dates, and it frames the arrival of the event as part of the arena's regular program of concerts, sporting events and other large shows.
The venue says the tournament will be held in a LAN format, and explains the term itself: the final matches take place on site, with players, coaching staff and an audience gathered in the building.
The announcement leaves several things for later. It gives no capacity for the Counter-Strike setup, no ticket prices and no sale date, and it names no partner from the city or the region. Nor does it say which teams are invited or how the 16 places are filled.

The tournament itself runs for eleven days, from Thursday, March 18 to Sunday, March 28, 2027. The venue's announcement places the final stage, the part open to the public, in the arena from Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28.
PGL's event of this season was built in a comparable way. At PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026, held in February, 16 teams played five Swiss rounds from February 14 to decide the eight that went through, HLTV's guide to the event explained on February 13. The eight survivors then played a single-elimination bracket, in which one defeat ends a team's run, and those playoffs were the part staged in front of a crowd at the BT Arena in Cluj-Napoca.
On the Lodz calendar, eight days come before the three with spectators. The arena's announcement does not say where those first eight days are played, nor how the bracket of the final days is drawn up.
March 18 or March 19: the start date differs
Atlas Arena gives March 18 to 28, 2027 for the tournament. The PGL calendar that HLTV reported on March 9, 2026 listed the organizer's only March event of 2027 from March 19 to 28. Both agree on the closing day.
The money around the event
The prize figures in the arena's announcement come in three layers. The first is the base prize pool, US$1 million, the sum the 16 teams play for in Lodz. The second is US$300,000 in bonuses for the top teams of the global Counter-Strike 2 ranking. The third is a share of US$2.8 million that PGL will distribute in 2027 to the teams that generate the highest viewership during international Counter-Strike 2 tournaments.
| Line | Amount | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Base prize pool | US$1 million | PGL Lodz 2027, 16 teams |
| Ranking bonuses | US$300,000 | Top teams of the global ranking |
| Viewership pool | US$2.8 million | All of PGL's 2027 season |
Atlas Arena, May 17, 2026. The viewership pool is a season-wide amount, not money for Lodz alone.
The last two lines are not specific to Lodz. They belong to a plan PGL calls the PGL CS2 Tier 1 Program, which HLTV reported on March 9, 2026. Under it, the organizer commits to paying teams at least US$11 million a year in 2027 and 2028, up from about US$5 million a year in 2025 and 2026. Of the yearly US$11 million, US$6 million goes into prize pools, split into US$3 million for players and US$3 million for organizations.

VRS stands for Valve Regional Standings, the ranking kept by Valve, the publisher of the game. According to HLTV, the bonus is worth US$300,000 to US$400,000 per event and goes to the five highest-ranked teams, up to 12th place in the global standings, that accept an invitation to a PGL tournament. The US$300,000 named for Lodz sits at the low end of that range.
The US$2.8 million is the viewership incentive. HLTV described how it works: at each PGL event, 12 teams earn points from the average cumulative viewership their matches draw; at the end of the year, each team's points are multiplied by the number of PGL events it attended, and the 16 teams with the most points share the pool. A team that travels to Lodz therefore adds to its multiplier for the year as well as playing for the prize pool.
The base figure can be set beside a PGL event of the current season. PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026 carried US$1.25 million described as prize money and club share, according to HLTV's guide of February 13, with US$450,000 for the winner, US$200,000 for the runner-up, US$137,500 for third and US$87,500 for fourth. The guide also noted that two teams of the top 16, Spirit and Liquid, had declined their invitations. Under the 2027 program, a declined invitation has a cost for the team as well: the ranking bonus is paid only to the best-placed teams that accept.

PGL's own calendar for 2027, as reported by HLTV on March 9, listed six numbered events: January 17 to 24, February 13 to 21, March 19 to 28, April 16 to 25, September 3 to 12 and October 8 to 17. It also named PGL as the official English broadcast of PW CAC 2027, from August 17 to 29. The calendar gave no host city for any of the six.
Only one block had been tied to a city before the Lodz announcement: on February 22, HLTV reported that the mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, had announced in an Instagram post that his city will host PGL events in 2027, 2028 and 2029, with February 13 to 21, 2027 secured as the date block for the first.
March is also where PGL meets a rival. On April 10, HLTV reported that BLAST, another of the large organizers of the circuit, will hold the first BLAST Open of its 2027 season in Singapore in March 2027, at the same time as a PGL event that month. BLAST will pay an acceptance pool of US$400,000 for that tournament, or US$25,000 per team if split equally, as part of a 2027 budget of US$10 million. In the same report, HLTV set that budget beside US$11 million for PGL and US$10.45 million for ESL, the ESL figure leaving out its US$1 million Grand Slam, and described the overlap between the two organizers' calendars as one that repeats across many of BLAST's 2027 events.
Back in Poland after a decade
The arena's announcement calls Lodz PGL's return to Poland after PGL Krakow 2017. The venue describes that earlier event as one still considered among the most important in the history of Counter-Strike. HLTV's event page lists the PGL Major Krakow 2017 from July 16 to 23, 2017, with 16 teams and a prize pool of US$1,000,000.

Lodz in 2027 is a different kind of tournament. Neither the arena nor PGL's calendar bills it as a Major, and its base prize pool equals the one Krakow offered ten years earlier. What sits on top of it is new: the ranking bonus and the season-long viewership pool both belong to the program PGL set out in March 2026 for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
An arena used to big crowds
Atlas Arena is a familiar name in another sport. In an announcement dated November 21, 2025, the venue wrote that it has hosted Nations League, Champions League, European Championship and Olympic qualifying matches in volleyball, and that the Polish national team beat Brazil and Russia there, both 3-2, wins that took it to the medal round and on to gold.
The same announcement said that the 2027 men's Volleyball World Championship will be played in Lodz, Gdansk and Olsztyn, with Atlas Arena hosting the matches of two groups, the round of 16 and the quarterfinals. Counter-Strike will therefore share the building's 2027 calendar with a world championship in a traditional sport.
What comes next
The arena's announcement does not open ticket sales, and it gives no date for them. The three days in the building, Friday, March 26 to Sunday, March 28, are the ones the public will be able to attend.
Before then, PGL has its 2026 season to finish, and most of its 2027 events still have no published host city. The list of invited teams, the format of the final days and the way the 16 places are filled are still to be announced.
