OpTic Texas beat LA Thieves 4-3 in the grand final of the Call of Duty League's fourth Major on June 28, winning the organization's first trophy of the 2026 season at Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France. The event drew tens of thousands of fans, reported as the largest LAN crowd in league history, and ended a 16-match win streak LA Thieves had carried into the final.

OpTic Texas had topped the Call of Duty League's regular-season standings through the first half of the year without converting that form into a trophy, reaching the grand final of the season's first two Majors and losing both. Major 4 broke that pattern, with OpTic beating the team that had denied it a title weeks earlier at Major 3.

A final that swung both ways

The grand final ran to the full seven maps allowed under the format's best-of-seven rules. LA Thieves won the opening Search and Destroy on Sake and the Overload on Scar, before OpTic Texas leveled with a 250-243 win on a Hardpoint map. LA Thieves then won another Search map, but OpTic closed out the remaining maps, including a second Overload on Gridlock and the deciding Search and Destroy on Gridlock, to take the series 4-3.

Individual stat lines from the final underlined how close the series was: LA Thieves' Scrap recorded 41 kills against OpTic in a single map, one of the highest individual outputs of the day, without that performance being enough on its own to hold off OpTic's late push through the lower stages of the series.

How both teams reached the final

OpTic Texas and LA Thieves arrived in Paris from opposite directions through the bracket. LA Thieves won the upper bracket final 3-0 over OpTic, which meant OpTic had to beat the team twice to take the title, first in that upper final loss, then again in the grand final itself after working back through the lower bracket. Along the way, OpTic swept G2 Minnesota 3-0 in the upper semifinals and beat Paris Gentle Mates 3-0 in the lower bracket final, avenging an earlier loss that had sent OpTic down from the upper side.

LA Thieves, for its part, had looked like the tournament's dominant team for most of the weekend. The 16-match win streak the roster carried into the grand final included wins across the Qualifiers and the earlier rounds of the Playoffs bracket, and the team had also beaten OpTic in the Major 3 final only weeks before Paris, making Saturday's result a reversal of the most recent meeting between the two sides.

Worth knowing

A regular-season leader does not automatically win Majors

OpTic Texas led the Call of Duty League's season standings for months before Major 4, built on consistent series wins rather than Major trophies. Paris Gentle Mates and FaZe Vegas had both already won a Major of their own by the time OpTic finally broke through in France.

What the win means for OpTic Texas

OpTic Texas enters the back half of the season as the reigning world champion from the previous year's Call of Duty Championship, a status that had carried extra weight across a season in which the team had reached two Major finals without winning either. Major 4 gives OpTic its first trophy of the year heading into the Call of Duty Championship itself, the LAN event that closes out the Black Ops 7 season later in the summer.

The win also reshapes how OpTic's season reads heading into the Championship: a team that had been generating results without the trophies to match them now arrives at the year's biggest event off a win over the roster it had lost to only weeks earlier, rather than off another runner-up finish.

What it means for LA Thieves and the rest of the field

LA Thieves' 16-match streak ending in the grand final does not erase the team's form across the rest of the Major. The roster had beaten OpTic at Major 3 and carried that result into a dominant run through most of Major 4's bracket, including the 3-0 upper bracket final win over OpTic that forced the eventual champion to play its way back from the lower bracket. A single grand final loss, after that run, leaves LA Thieves as one of the season's most consistent teams without yet converting that consistency into the year's two most recent Major trophies.

Paris Gentle Mates' third-place finish keeps the organization's season alive after it had already won the year's opening Major in Dallas, while FaZe Vegas's fourth-place finish follows its own Major 2 title from Birmingham. With four different teams now having won one of the season's first four Majors, no single roster has repeated as champion through the opening three-quarters of the year.

OpTic's wider season form behind the Paris win

Major 4 was not an isolated hot streak for OpTic Texas. The organization had topped the Call of Duty League's season-long points standings for months before Paris, built on a 40-12 series record that led the league through the end of June, well clear of LA Thieves in second place. That record had come without a Major trophy to show for it until Paris, a gap between regular-season form and LAN results that had been one of the season's recurring storylines before Major 4 finally closed it.

How the bracket was built

Major 4's Qualifiers ran online from May 29 to June 21, seeding the twelve-team field before the top eight traveled to Paris for a double-elimination LAN bracket built around best-of-five series and a best-of-seven grand final. OpTic Texas and LA Thieves both entered the LAN stage among the Qualifiers' strongest finishers, a form that carried through to the bracket itself: LA Thieves' sweep of OpTic in the upper bracket final was the only series of the weekend either finalist lost before the grand final.

The lower bracket told a different story. OpTic had to beat G2 Minnesota 3-0 in the upper semifinals before its loss to LA Thieves sent it down to face Paris Gentle Mates, which it also swept 3-0, setting up the rematch with LA Thieves in the grand final. FaZe Vegas and Toronto KOI were both eliminated earlier in the lower rounds, with FaZe's run ending at 3-2 against Paris Gentle Mates in the lower semifinal after FaZe had itself swept Toronto KOI 3-0 one round earlier.

The full placement table

Major 4's payouts extended across the whole eight-team LAN field. G2 Minnesota and Toronto KOI tied for fifth place, while Boston Breach and Miami Heretics, which had entered the LAN stage through the Qualifiers rather than the Play-ins, tied for seventh. Riyadh Falcons, Vancouver Surge, Carolina Royal Ravens and Cloud9 New York rounded out the bottom four without a cash placement at the event, having been eliminated before the LAN Playoffs bracket paid out any prize money.

A season with four different champions

Major 4 closed out the regular Major schedule with no organization repeating as champion: Paris Gentle Mates won the opening Major in Dallas, FaZe Vegas took Major 2 in Birmingham, LA Thieves won Major 3 by beating OpTic in that event's own final, and now OpTic Texas has taken Major 4 in Paris. That spread meant every one of the four finalists at Major 4, OpTic Texas, LA Thieves, Paris Gentle Mates and FaZe Vegas, had already won at least one Major of its own earlier in the season before the Paris event decided the last trophy before the Championship.

What comes next

Major 4 was the last of the four Majors scheduled before the Call of Duty League's season-closing Championship, which brings the league's twelve franchises together for the year's largest LAN event. OpTic Texas heads into that event as the reigning world champion looking to add a Major 4 title to its season, while LA Thieves, Paris Gentle Mates and FaZe Vegas all carry their own results from the season's first four Majors into a Championship bracket that will decide the year's biggest prize regardless of which team topped the regular-season standings along the way.
