MOUZ will play the rest of the spring with two different lineups, and the player who called the team's tactics until this week appears in only one of them. The club announced on April 18, 2026, that Brollan and Jimpphat are moved to the bench, HLTV, the reference news site for Counter-Strike, reported that evening.

Three more decisions came with the benchings. xelex is promoted from MOUZ NXT, the club's academy team. jL arrives on a short-term loan from Natus Vincere. And xertioN becomes the in-game leader, the player who decides the team's tactics during a match, a job Brollan held until now.

The change does not apply everywhere at once. Because of the roster rules of the IEM Cologne Major, the season's main tournament, Brollan returns to the five for that event alone and jL does not play it.

HLTV, April 18, 2026. The semi-final count covers early 2025 to early 2026.

What MOUZ announced on April 18

Two players leave the starting five. Brollan, a 23-year-old Swede, and Jimpphat, a 19-year-old Finn, are benched: they remain MOUZ players, and nothing in HLTV's report describes a release or a transfer for either of them.

Two players come in. xelex steps up from MOUZ NXT, and jL, a 26-year-old Lithuanian, joins from Natus Vincere. HLTV describes his arrangement as a short-term loan and gives no end date for it. He stepped down from Natus Vincere's lineup in July 2025.

Three players stay where they were: xertioN, torzsi and Spinx. Dennis "sycrone" Nielsen remains the coach.

The club explained the choices in its own words. Jan Dominicus, its chief business development officer, told HLTV that promoting xelex fits the club's policy of bringing players up from its own academy, and that jL is expected to bring initiative in difficult situations. On the timing, MOUZ said its priority was to give the new lineup a head start.

sycrone published a long statement thanking the two players. About Brollan, he wrote that the decision was not fair to him on a personal level, that the Swede had sacrificed for the team, and that leading a team sometimes means accepting that what is fair and what is necessary are not the same thing.

A new caller, and his old job passed on

The role change is the part of the announcement that touches every round MOUZ will play. An in-game leader reads the opponent, chooses the plan and adjusts it while the round is running. The rest of the five builds its habits around that voice.

Brollan had that responsibility. According to HLTV, he took it after siuhy, the previous caller, was removed from the team, and sycrone's statement credits that change with the consistent run that followed. HLTV now lists siuhy with Liquid.

xertioN, a 21-year-old Israeli, takes over. Until now he was the team's pack opener, the player who goes first into a contested part of the map to open the way for his teammates. HLTV reports that this job passes to xelex.

So one benching sets off a chain of three moves. The caller leaves the five, a player known for going in first starts calling, and the newcomer from the academy inherits the role of the man now leading him.

One lineup for Astana and Shanghai, another for Cologne

HLTV gives the two fives MOUZ will field over the coming weeks. The first is for PGL Astana and the CS Asia Championships. The second is for the Major.

The calendar explains why the club spoke of a head start. The CS Asia Championships, organized by Perfect World in Shanghai, run from May 20 to 24 with 16 teams and US$1 million in prize money, HLTV reported on March 31. MOUZ hold one of the 14 direct invitations. The same report says PGL Astana ends two days before the Shanghai event begins, which makes two tournaments back to back for the new five.

The Major follows. ESL, its organizer, has set it for June 2 to 21 in Cologne, with 32 teams and a prize pool of US$1,250,000. Between the announcement and the first day of the Major there are 45 days.

Why Brollan returns for the Major

A Major is one of the championships sponsored by Valve, the publisher of Counter-Strike, and its roster rules are Valve's own. Teams are invited through the Valve Regional Standings, the ranking Valve computes from results, and the invitation belongs to a group of five players rather than to a club.

Valve's Major rulebook calls that group the Core Lineup and requires the roster a team registers to match the roster that was invited. A team may add one coach and one substitute. If the invited roster is no longer intact, the rulebook says, the team does not take part and the next roster in the ranking is invited instead.

HLTV applies the rule to MOUZ in its report: the club must use the lineup listed in the standings of April 6, the update that fixed the invitations, with one change allowed through the substitute.

MOUZ were invited with xertioN, torzsi, Spinx, Brollan and Jimpphat. Replacing both benched players would be two changes. The club uses its single change for xelex, who takes Jimpphat's place, and Brollan keeps his.

The Major rule

An invited five can change by one player, not two

Valve's rulebook ties a Major invitation to the lineup that earned it and lets a team register one substitute. MOUZ use that place for xelex. That is why jL sits out Cologne and Brollan plays it.

The place at stake is a high one. In the list of invited teams HLTV published on April 5, MOUZ are among the eight teams that enter the Major directly in Stage 3, the last of its three opening stages. Each stage is a 16-team bracket in the Swiss format, where teams with the same record meet each other, and the best eight of Stage 3 go on to the playoffs in the LANXESS arena from June 18.

From 13 semi-finals in 15 events to three misses in a row

The benchings follow a change of fortune that HLTV sums up in two figures. From early 2025 to early 2026, MOUZ reached at least the semi-finals at 13 of the 15 events they attended. Since then they have finished outside the top four at three events in a row.

HLTV's dated reports of the past six weeks record three exits before the semi-finals. On March 13, MOUZ lost to FUT in the quarter-finals of the ESL Pro League. The following week came BLAST Open Rotterdam. MOUZ lost a series to The MongolZ, a team they had beaten five times in a row, and were eliminated on March 21 by 9z, two maps to one, after winning the first map 13-11. A map is one game of a series.

HLTV called it the team's first group-stage exit in over a year and its worst placing since Spinx joined. The last time MOUZ had gone out before the playoffs was IEM Katowice 2025. 9z were ranked 29th in the world at the time.

sycrone did not hide his concern. In an interview published by HLTV on March 22, the coach said the team had fallen apart during the tournament and pointed to fundamentals, communication and energy. He also described the group as very talented and young in every position.

IEM Rio brought no turnaround. MOUZ beat Aurora to reach the playoffs, then lost their quarter-final to Spirit on April 17 without winning a map: 13-5 on Dust2 and 13-8 on Mirage. It was their sixth loss in a row to Spirit, HLTV noted.

The world ranking tells the same story. HLTV placed MOUZ third on March 16, sixth on March 30 and eighth on April 13.

After the loss in Rio, Jimpphat told HLTV he did not expect any roster change before the Major. He added that changes would come at some point if the lineup could not win trophies. The announcement came the next day.

How the players compare on recent form

With its report, HLTV printed each player's rating over the previous three months. A rating is the single figure the site computes for every professional player from his statistics.

MOUZ players and the loan arrivalHLTV rating over the previous three months
Spinx1.14 jL (12 maps)1.12 xertioN1.06 Jimpphat (benched)1.04 torzsi1.01 Brollan (benched)0.99

HLTV, April 18, 2026. jL: 12 maps. The five MOUZ players: 55 maps each.

Two cautions apply. jL's figure rests on 12 maps, against 55 for each of the five players who formed the MOUZ lineup, so it describes a much shorter stretch of play. And the lowest bar belongs to the player who was calling. An in-game leader is not judged on his own statistics alone, since part of his attention goes to the four others.

The chart also shows what the club gives up. Jimpphat's rating over the period was the third best of the five, behind Spinx and xertioN.

What comes next for the new five

The first test is PGL Astana, where xertioN calls for the first time with xelex and jL beside him. The CS Asia Championships follow in Shanghai on May 20, two days after Astana ends. Five of the world's top ten teams were expected there when the invitations were published, HLTV wrote, MOUZ among them.

Then the lineup changes again. In Cologne, jL makes way for Brollan, who goes from caller to member of a five led by xertioN. HLTV describes that return as temporary and says nothing of what follows it, for him or for Jimpphat.

Two rankings measure the distance covered by the players involved. On April 13, HLTV ranked MOUZ eighth and MOUZ NXT 91st, while Natus Vincere, the club lending jL, stood second.

For the Major itself, the rulebook leaves MOUZ no further room. The one change has been used, and the five registered for Cologne is the five that plays.
