Invictus Gaming (iG) beat Top Esports (TES) 3-1 on Tuesday, November 3, in the first quarterfinal of the League of Legends World Championship 2026, known as Worlds. The best-of-five series was played at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas, according to an esports news outlet's recap and a Strafe preview. It was the opening match of the Knockout Stage, and it sent iG into the semifinals while ending TES's run.
Both teams come from China's league, the LPL, so one of them was always going to advance. The result puts iG in the final four of Worlds for the first time since 2019, as that same recap and GosuGamers both report. TES, which finished third to fourth at Worlds 2025, goes out in the fifth-to-eighth bracket.
The match was listed on November 3 in the United States and on November 4 in Korea. Sports Kyunghyang, a Korean outlet, gave the start as 7 a.m. on November 4 Korean time, and Strafe listed it for 22:00 GMT on Tuesday, November 3. Different outlets therefore date the same series differently.
Series score and 2019 history from an esports news outlet's recap dated November 4, 2026; prize figure from GosuGamers, which reports that iG is guaranteed at least third to fourth place.
How the four games went
EarlyGame's recap, published on November 4, gives the clearest game-by-game account, and GameDaily's recap, published that evening in US Eastern time, agrees on who won each game. iG took Game 1, TES won a long Game 2, and iG then won Games 3 and 4 to close the series.
In Game 1, EarlyGame says TheShy, iG's top laner, solo-killed 369's Ambessa early while playing Gnar. TES then caught Meiko's Nautilus and Rookie's Syndra in a fight inside iG's jungle, but iG turned the skirmish into an ace, a kill of all five enemy players. EarlyGame lists JiaQi, iG's bot laner, at 10 kills, 1 death and 10 assists, and Rookie at 8 kills, 2 deaths and 11 assists.

The same recap says Tian's Baron steal kept TES in the game, and iG pushed into the TES base around the 40-minute mark. Baron is the powerful neutral monster that grants a team a strong buff. GameDaily describes iG as looking headed for the win before 369 defended the TES base and turned the game around, which tied the series at 1-1.
Games 3 and 4 belonged to iG. In Game 3, EarlyGame says Wei, the iG jungler, played Jayce and finished 5 kills, 0 deaths and 8 assists, after TES chose to focus on shutting down JiaQi. GameDaily adds that TES took an early kill lead, but iG won several fights against the TES bot lane and snowballed to match point. In Game 4, Wei switched to Naafiri and targeted 369 early, according to EarlyGame, while TheShy built a lead in the top lane on K'Sante. iG took the first Drake and all three Void Grubs and won the decisive fight around the Dragon Soul. A Dragon Soul is the lasting team bonus a side earns by taking a set number of Dragons.
Two teams that opened with losses
Neither team had an easy path through the Swiss Stage. On the first day of the Swiss Stage, October 23, all four LPL teams lost their opening matches, according to Inven Global, which described the result as a four-loss sweep for the LPL.

Strafe's explainer sets out the rules: three losses eliminate a team, three wins qualify it for the quarterfinals, and the matches that decide qualification or elimination are best-of-three. The remaining matches are best-of-one. Teams from the same region can meet from Round 2 onward.
Both teams then recovered, according to GosuGamers, and both finished the stage 3-1.
| Team | Round 1 | Rounds 2 and 3 | Round 4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Invictus Gaming | Lost to Gen.G | Beat Team Secret Whales, then Hanwha Life Esports | Beat LYON 2-1 |
| Top Esports | Lost to Hanwha Life Esports | Beat Anyone's Legend, then G2 Esports | Beat Bilibili Gaming 2-1 |
GosuGamers and Strafe reports on the Swiss Stage; both teams finished 3-1.
Inven Global reported on October 28 that iG's 2-1 win over LYON made it the first LPL team to reach the quarterfinals of this Worlds, and that it was iG's first quarterfinal in seven years. GosuGamers says LYON won the second game after building a lead of about 10,000 gold. EarlyGame, in its October 29 report on that series, named Wei series MVP.
TES's Round 4 was a comeback. GosuGamers says BLG won Game 1 in 27 minutes with a 21-6 kill lead. In Game 2, Knight's LeBlanc caused TES problems, but TES won it in 37 minutes and then took Game 3 in 27 minutes with a 17-3 kill lead. That reverse sweep, winning after trailing 0-1, secured the Knockout Stage.
A rematch with fresh history
This was not a first meeting. The two teams met twice in September, and the results went both ways. Strafe's pre-match preview lists five meetings in 2026 and shows iG ahead 3-2, with two 2-0 wins for iG in April, a 2-0 win for TES, a 3-2 win for iG on September 5 and a 3-1 win for TES on September 17.

GosuGamers reports that TES beat iG 3-1 that Thursday in the LPL Regional Finals, which earned TES the LPL's third seed for Worlds 2026. GosuGamers adds that iG, which had won the opening game, still had to win another series for the LPL's fourth spot. Strafe's report of September 19 says iG then beat JD Gaming 3-1 in the lower-bracket final to take the LPL's fourth and last Worlds spot. Strafe adds that the fourth slot exists because Bilibili Gaming was runner-up at MSI 2026, which earned China an extra place.
Counting Strafe's table and the Worlds result, iG has now won four of the six series the teams have played in 2026. That figure is a simple addition, and it reflects series, not individual games.
TES was the higher seed. Strafe lists the four LPL qualifiers at the Regional Finals by Championship Points, with TES at 105 and iG at 90. GosuGamers adds that iG had a mixed 2026 before that run. It won the Demacia Cup early in the year, placed fifth to sixth in Split 1, missed the Esports World Cup, finished ninth to twelfth in Split 2 and took third in Split 3.
Familiar faces on both sides
The quarterfinal carried a strong 2018 storyline. Sports Kyunghyang, writing on November 2, noted that iG's top laner TheShy and its mid laner Rookie both still play for iG and were both on the iG roster that won Worlds in 2018. EarlyGame makes the same point in its recap and notes that the two are playing together again eight years later. Sports Kyunghyang added that TES's bot laner JackeyLove also won the 2018 title with iG before moving to TES.
Related readLOUD Become Valorant's First Two-Time World ChampionsOn the TES side, Sports Kyunghyang said 369, the team's top laner, returned to the Worlds stage after seven months away from official play. The newspaper singled out the top lane matchup between TheShy and 369 as a possible deciding factor. In the recaps, both players had visible moments: TheShy's solo kill in Game 1 and his K'Sante in Game 4 for iG, and 369's base defense in Game 2 for TES.
The recaps name several of the other starters as well. For iG, EarlyGame lists Wei in the jungle, Rookie in the middle lane, JiaQi at bot and Meiko in support alongside TheShy. For TES, it names 369, Creme, Tian and JackeyLove. Creme played Yone in Game 3 according to EarlyGame, and, according to EarlyGame, TES lost a great deal of its damage whenever iG removed JackeyLove's Lucian from a fight in Game 4.
Both teams came from the same league, so the loser's season ended where the winner's kept going.
What a semifinal place is worth
For iG, the result ends a long gap. The esports news outlet's recap cited earlier says iG's last Worlds semifinal was in 2019, when it tied for third to fourth, and that it placed 17th at Worlds 2025. GosuGamers also reports the 2019 finish and the 17th place.
Strafe published a prize table on October 11 for a US$5 million prize pool. It lists US$400,000 per team for third to fourth place and US$300,000 per team for fifth to eighth place. GosuGamers' recap of this series gives the same two figures: at least US$400,000 for iG, which is guaranteed third to fourth place at minimum, and US$300,000 for TES, which finishes fifth to eighth.
The result also matters to the LPL. GosuGamers points out that it has been five years since a Chinese team last won the Summoner's Cup, the Worlds trophy. The LPL lost all four of its opening Swiss matches on October 23, and one of its teams is now in the final four.
For TES, the stage ends at the quarterfinal. The team that beat iG in September to secure its seed now leaves in the fifth-to-eighth group, a step below its finish at Worlds 2025.
What happens next
iG will face the winner of the Gen.G versus LYON quarterfinal, according to GosuGamers and EarlyGame. iG has already faced both teams at this Worlds: it lost to Gen.G in Round 1 and beat LYON 2-1 in Round 4.
EarlyGame puts the semifinals on Saturday, November 7. The news outlet's recap says quarterfinals and semifinals in Allen start at 4 p.m. Central time, and Riot Games' esports site lists the Knockout Stage as November 3 to 8 in Allen, with the Grand Final on Saturday, November 14, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Sports Kyunghyang describes the quarterfinal as a best-of-five. That is why a 3-1 score means the series ended after four games, with no fifth game needed.
