Dplus KIA and Gen.G have become the first two teams to reach the Knockout Stage of the League of Legends World Championship 2026, after both won their best-of-three series on Sunday, October 25. Strafe reported that Day 3 of the Swiss Stage concluded that day, and that Dplus KIA's 2-0 win over Movistar KOI and Gen.G's 2-1 comeback against LYON secured the first two playoff spots.
Records and dates as reported by Strafe and GosuGamers after Day 3, October 25, 2026.
Dplus KIA and Gen.G are through
GosuGamers wrote that Dplus KIA and Gen.G will enter the Knockout Stage after winning all of their Swiss Stage matches, which makes them the two teams with unbeaten records. Strafe added that Gen.G finished with a 3-0 series record.
Strafe reported that Dplus KIA was the first team to qualify, finishing off Movistar KOI in two games. Gen.G followed after coming from behind to beat LYON 2-1. LYON took game one, and Gen.G won the next two.
The two series were both Round 3 High Matches. In Round 3, the High Matches pair teams that arrive at 2-0, according to GosuGamers' Day 2 recap, which called them the Round 3 Advancement Matches. The Mid Matches of the same round pair teams at 1-1. That recap listed Gen.G, Dplus KIA, LYON and Movistar KOI as the four unbeaten teams, so they met in pairs on Day 3. The winners took the two places in the Knockout Stage. The losers, Movistar KOI and LYON, did not go home: both fell to 2-1 and stay in contention.
The Day 3 results
Two of Sunday's matches were best-of-one games, meaning a single game decides the result. The other two were best-of-three series, where the first team to win two games takes the match. GosuGamers listed all four results, and the table below sets out the Day 3 scoreboard with the length of each game.

The Round 3 Mid Matches were the two best-of-one games of the day. GosuGamers' Day 2 recap said they will be the last best-of-one series of the tournament. The same recap said the High and Low Matches in Round 3 onward are best-of-three with Fearless Draft active. LoL Theory, a League of Legends guide site, explains Fearless Draft this way: a champion used in one game of a series cannot be used by either team for the rest of that series. The recap added that a one-day break follows before the Swiss Stage resumes with Round 4.
The first pentakill of Worlds 2026
Strafe reported that Dplus KIA's Smash scored the first pentakill of Worlds 2026 on Kai'Sa, in game one, at the 38-minute mark. GosuGamers recorded that game as lasting 39 minutes, so the two outlets time the pentakill and the game differently: the 38 is Strafe's mark for the kill, and the 39 is GosuGamers' length for the game.
It was a pentakill, in which one player eliminates all five opponents, and it came in a game Dplus KIA won.
Who is one win away, and who is in danger
After Day 3, Strafe reported the standings as follows. Invictus Gaming and Top Esports moved to 2-1 and are one win away from qualification. Movistar KOI and LYON also stand at 2-1 after their High Match losses. Hanwha Life Esports and G2 Esports dropped to 1-2, and Strafe wrote that both must win their next series to avoid elimination.
GosuGamers said the same of Hanwha Life Esports and G2 Esports, calling them at risk of elimination, and said Movistar KOI and LYON play the Round 4 High Matches.

Invictus Gaming and Top Esports then beat Hanwha Life Esports and G2 Esports on Day 3, and GosuGamers wrote that the LPL kept rallying after its winless start. Two LPL teams now sit one win from the Knockout Stage.
How the rest of the Swiss Stage works
The Swiss Stage is the main opening phase of Worlds 2026. LoL Theory's format guide, published in July and updated in August, says the stage has sixteen teams, the fifteen direct qualifiers plus the winner of the play-in stage, and that teams with the same record are paired each round. Three wins advance a team to the Knockout Stage and three losses eliminate it. Inven Global, an esports news outlet, said in an October 5 preview that the stage lasts up to five rounds and runs from October 23 to 31 in Allen, Texas. LoL Theory's schedule lists the Swiss Stage in two blocks, October 23 to 26 and October 28 to 31. LoL Theory adds that two teams cannot meet twice in the Swiss Stage.
The play-in stage came first. LoL Theory places it on October 15 to 18 in Los Angeles, and Inven Global, which says the tournament begins on October 15, also puts it in Los Angeles. Both describe four teams in a double-elimination bracket of best-of-five series. Only the winner moved on to the Swiss Stage.
LoL Theory also explains which matches are longer: those that can decide a team's qualification or elimination are best-of-three, and other rounds are best-of-one. Round 3 pairings followed that pattern. GosuGamers listed the Mid Matches as 1-1 teams against 1-1 teams, and the Round 3 Elimination Matches as 0-2 teams against 0-2 teams. The Elimination Matches belong to Day 4, and GosuGamers reported that the losers leave the tournament in 15th and 16th place.

With eight places in the Knockout Stage and two now taken, six remain. LoL Theory and Inven Global both put the end of the Swiss Stage on October 31.
How the first three days led here
The two perfect records were built across the opening days. On the opening day, October 23 according to Insider Gaming, all four LPL teams lost. GosuGamers' Day 1 recap lists Top Esports losing to Hanwha Life Esports and Invictus Gaming losing to Gen.G, alongside Bilibili Gaming losing a best-of-one to Movistar KOI and Anyone's Legend losing to Karmine Corp. It described the last two as the first two massive upsets of the tournament.
Day 2 produced the four 2-0 teams. GosuGamers listed the results: CTBC Flying Oyster lost to Movistar KOI, LYON beat Karmine Corp, Hanwha Life Esports lost to Gen.G, and T1 lost to Dplus KIA. Elsewhere on the same day, Top Esports beat Anyone's Legend, G2 Esports beat LOS, Team Secret Whales lost to Invictus Gaming, and Team Liquid Alienware lost to Bilibili Gaming.
What comes next, and the road to the final
GosuGamers listed the next matches. On Day 4, the Round 3 Mid Matches are CTBC Flying Oyster against T1 and Bilibili Gaming against Karmine Corp, both between teams at 1-1. The Round 3 Elimination Matches are LOS against Team Secret Whales and Team Liquid Alienware against Anyone's Legend, both between teams at 0-2. Strafe reported that Round 3 continues on Monday, October 26, with the two best-of-one games at 10 AM and 11 AM Pacific Time, followed by the two best-of-three elimination series at noon and 1 PM Pacific Time.
The 1-1 teams play the Round 3 Mid Matches, which GosuGamers described as a fight for better positions. Strafe wrote that the winners of the elimination matches advance to Round 4 with 1-2 records, while GosuGamers reported that the losers exit in 15th and 16th place.
The Knockout Stage begins on November 3, according to GosuGamers. LoL Theory describes the knockout rounds as a single-elimination bracket with every match best-of-five, and Inven Global also says every knockout series is best-of-five. Inven Global adds that the quarterfinal seeding is drawn on October 31: each team that finished 3-0 is drawn against a random team that finished 3-2, and the remaining four teams are paired randomly.
LoL Theory lists the quarterfinals for November 3 to 6 and the semifinals for November 7 and 8, both at the CUTX Event Center in Allen, Texas, the same venue as the Swiss Stage. The final is on November 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and LoL Theory says there is no bronze match, so the losing semifinalists tie for third. Inven Global gives the tournament window as October 15 to November 14.
