Virtus.pro have finished rebuilding their Counter-Strike 2 team, and they did it from inside the club. On Thursday, March 12, 2026, the organization promoted two players from its academy team, VP.Prodigy, to the main roster: AquaRS and F0R3VER. HLTV, the Counter-Strike news and statistics site, reported the move the same day.

The two join mir, the experienced in-game leader who returned to the club in February, under head coach ProbLeM. Three players who started the year in the lineup, Perfecto, FL1T and fame, are now on the bench.

The promotion comes at a moment when the academy stood higher than the team it feeds. In Valve's own ranking, the Valve Regional Standings, Virtus.pro had fallen to 100th place during the run of results that led to the rebuild, while VP.Prodigy had climbed to 77th.

What Virtus.pro announced

An academy team is a second roster that an organization runs below its main team, with younger players, in smaller tournaments, so that they learn the job before being asked to do it at the top. VP.Prodigy is Virtus.pro's academy in Counter-Strike 2, and on March 12 it supplied the last pieces of the main lineup.

The club explained its choice by recent results. Its statement, as HLTV relays it, says the decision was made following recent tournaments, and adds a line on the two players: "Dias and Alex showed strong performances as part of VP.Prodigy, demonstrating solid teamwork and individual skill."

The statement also explains the pairing with mir, who holds the captain's role. Virtus.pro believes, in its own account, that working alongside an experienced captain will help the young players adapt and reach their potential.

HLTV's figures back the club's reading of form. Over the previous three months, AquaRS held a rating of 1.06 and F0R3VER 1.05, each across 90 maps. The rating is HLTV's single figure for individual performance over the maps a player has played. The points that lifted VP.Prodigy in Valve's standings came, according to HLTV, from two events: IZI WEX Season 1 and MPKBK CIS LAN Season 3.

Neither the statement nor HLTV's report says whether the promotions are permanent or for a set period.

The five on the roster list

HLTV's roster box for Virtus.pro on March 12 lists five players. Apart from mir, all of them come from VP.Prodigy: the two players promoted that day, and two who had played for the main team earlier in 2026 and had gone back to the academy in February for its events.

The in-game leader is the player who calls the team's tactics during a match. The club's statement does not name him, but it presents the role he holds, that of the experienced captain, as the one the young players will learn from.

A rebuild that started in February

The roster of March 12 is the end of a five-week process that began with the benching of the team's former in-game leader.

How the Virtus.pro lineup was rebuilt
  1. February 4: Perfecto is benchedThe in-game leader is moved to the bench and put on the transfer list. The team takes a competitive pause.
  2. February 14: FL1T and fame followTwo long-serving players are benched and the club says it is open to transfer offers.
  3. February 20: mir returnsThe former Virtus.pro player comes back as in-game leader. Two young players go back to VP.Prodigy for its events.
  4. March 12: the academy duo is promotedAquaRS and F0R3VER move up from VP.Prodigy to complete the lineup.
  5. Until the end of April: bootcampThe new team prepares in an extended training camp in Serbia.

The first move came on February 4. Virtus.pro benched and transfer-listed Perfecto, ending a seven-month spell in the starting lineup, HLTV reported. The club said in a post on X that the roster as it stood could not build consistent performances or fully realize its potential, and announced a temporary competitive pause while it looked for a new in-game leader and the right lineup. Perfecto's own words were plain: "I've decided to pursue other career options, so I've been placed on the transfer list."

Ten days later, on February 14, FL1T and fame were benched as well. The club's statement, published on its own site and printed by HLTV, said that after discussions management had concluded that changes to the roster were necessary and that it was open to transfer offers for both players. HLTV recalled that both had been part of Virtus.pro since 2022, FL1T since October 2021, and that both were key to the club's run at the IEM Rio Major, played under the name Outsiders.

The results explain the urgency. HLTV counted Virtus.pro at zero wins in five series in 2026 by mid-February. HLTV wrote that the team went out last at BLAST Bounty and at CCT Season 3 Europe Series 13, and lost to RUSTEC and WW at the local LAN Exort Cataclysm. A LAN is a tournament played in a venue rather than online. When Perfecto was benched on February 4, HLTV listed the teams Virtus.pro had lost to since the turn of the year: Nuclear TigeRES, Nemiga, WW and RUSTEC. In HLTV's ranking of February 2, Nuclear TigeRES stood 42nd, one place above Virtus.pro, while Nemiga were 68th, RUSTEC 96th and WW 116th. Several of those defeats, in other words, came against teams ranked well below the club.

mir's return as in-game leader

The rebuild's first signing was a familiar one. On February 20, HLTV reported that mir, 30, was back at Virtus.pro as in-game leader. He had last played for the team across 2023 and 2024; his last official full-time appearance for the club was at IEM Chengdu in April 2024.

He had not played regular competitive Counter-Strike since then, HLTV noted. The site counted a single official appearance in the meantime, as a stand-in for FL4MUS at IEM Katowice 2025.

The same report said that two players who had been on the main roster would go back to VP.Prodigy for its next events. Virtus.pro announced the moves in a post on X and, HLTV noted, did not say explicitly whether that change was long term. Three weeks later, both are listed with the main team again, now alongside two of their academy teammates.

Why the academy ranked above the main team

The two rankings tell the story of the winter. HLTV publishes a weekly world ranking of its own, and VP.Prodigy climbed it quickly: 155th on February 9, 116th on February 16, and 86th on March 9, 2026. By March 12, HLTV reported, the academy had also reached 77th in Valve's standings.

The main team went the other way. HLTV reported on February 14 that the three benchings cost Virtus.pro its place in Valve's standings, and that its 981 points would otherwise have put it 93rd in the world. By March 12 the site gave the team's position as 100th.

The decline was older than 2026. When Perfecto was benched, HLTV wrote that over his time in the team Virtus.pro had fallen from peaks of 13th in its own ranking and 17th in Valve's to 43rd and 86th.

Put side by side, the two curves cross. In March, the academy's position in Valve's standings was 23 places higher than the main team's, and the club chose to promote from it rather than sign from outside for the last two places.

Promotions from the academy are not new at Virtus.pro

Virtus.pro have used VP.Prodigy as a source of starters before. HLTV's report of February 4 recalls that Perfecto joined in late June 2025 and became in-game leader soon after, when electroNic was benched, and that ICY was later benched too. In both cases, HLTV writes, academy players were promoted to take the place.

On February 4, those two academy players were both on the main roster. By mid-February, after the benchings, they were the only two players left on it, with ProbLeM as head coach. HLTV presumed at the time that the rebuild would center on that VP.Prodigy trio of two players and their coach.

The March roster confirms that direction. Four of its five players have now come up through the academy.

What comes next

The club has set one date. HLTV reports that Virtus.pro will hold an extended bootcamp in Serbia until the end of April to prepare for upcoming tournaments. A bootcamp is a period of intensive practice, usually away from home, that teams use to build a new lineup.

The report names no event for the new five and no date for a first match. For Perfecto, FL1T and fame, the position is the one the club described in February: benched and available for transfer, with no destination announced.

VP.Prodigy itself is left to rebuild. The roster box HLTV publishes for the academy still lists five players, four of whom are now listed with the main team. How the academy fills its own lineup has not been announced.
