One of Saudia's aircraft now carries the colors of a video game competition, and it flies every day between the city that hosted the Esports World Cup until last year and the city that hosts it now. The Esports Foundation, which organizes the event, and Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, announced on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 that the carrier is the official airline of the 2026 edition, held in Paris.
The joint release, issued from Jeddah, Riyadh and Paris, describes the agreement as an expanded partnership: Saudia already held the airline category at the 2025 edition in Riyadh. The Esports Advocate, which reported the deal the same day, noted that neither the financial terms nor the length of the official-airline designation were disclosed.
An aircraft in the event's colors
The plane is the part of the deal that can be seen. Saudia presented it at a ceremony held at Saudia Technic in Jeddah, in front of government representatives, partners, media and content creators, according to the release. The two partners call it the first commercial aircraft in the world dedicated to an esports event. The claim is theirs, and The Esports Advocate reports it as such.
Neither the release nor the report gives the model of the aircraft. What they give is its schedule. During the tournament it flies daily between Riyadh and Paris. After the event it stays in its livery, the paint scheme of an aircraft, and is to fly across Saudia's international network for the next two years.
- The unveilingThe aircraft is shown in its Esports World Cup livery at Saudia Technic in Jeddah.
- During the eventIt flies daily between Riyadh and Paris, where the competition runs through August 23.
- After the eventIt keeps the livery on Saudia's international routes for the next two years.
That last step changes the reach of the sponsorship. A partner's logo at a venue is seen for the weeks of a tournament. An aircraft that keeps its paint for two years carries the event's name to airports that have no link with it, long after the last match. The release does not say on which routes the plane will be placed once the Paris edition is over.

The second part of the agreement is transport itself. The release lists travel initiatives between Riyadh and Paris for players, fans, creators, clubs and event staff. Saudia says it has already flown thousands of people to Paris for the event, among them staff, players, creators and selected fans, and that more travel is expected in the coming weeks.
Two programs are named. Through the Esports World Cup's Superfan program, selected fans attend the event in person. Creators based in the Middle East and North Africa are flown in to produce coverage on site for audiences in their own region.
The reason an airline's role weighs more this year is in the calendar of the event. On January 20, the foundation announced the 2026 edition for Riyadh, from July 6 to August 23. On May 20, it confirmed that the event was moving to Paris, as HLTV reported that day, with the same titles and formats. The competition is played at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the venue named by The Esports Advocate, and the release calls this edition the event's first international one.
The move was confirmed less than seven weeks before July 6, the opening date announced in January for an event then planned in Saudi Arabia. The scale did not change with the address: the release of July 21 gives the same numbers of players, clubs and tournaments as the plan published in January.
The outlet draws the conclusion in its report: because the 2026 edition is the first held outside Saudi Arabia, the renewed deal has more operational and marketing weight than the previous one, and Saudia acts both as a sponsor and as part of the event's travel infrastructure.

The agreement also covers what passengers and players see away from the venue. Programs about the Esports World Cup are available on Beyond, the name of Saudia's in-flight entertainment system, including a documentary titled "Esports World Cup: Level Up". Selected live broadcasts of the tournaments are shown in Saudia's airport lounges for the length of the event.
A third activation, the trade's word for what a sponsor does around an event, takes place inside a game. Saudia runs a community competition in Fortnite, the game of Epic Games, on a map made for the occasion. The 2026 map is a virtual airport with a Saudia aircraft drawn after the real Esports World Cup livery. The winners receive tickets to the 2026 event in Paris. The release says the 2025 edition of that competition, played on a custom map, drew hundreds of thousands of fans, and gives neither a name nor dates for this year's.
Two executives speak in the release. Francois Desir, director of sponsorship and advertising at the Esports Foundation, says the partnership extends the experience of the event beyond the competition. Ibrahim Binaquil, marketing head of Saudia Group, says that the role of a national carrier goes beyond travel, and that the agreement helps the airline reach a new generation and present Saudi Arabia abroad.
What changes from the 2025 deal
Saudia entered the event one year ago. On July 14, 2025, a release from the foundation named the airline official airline partner of the 2025 Esports World Cup, held at Boulevard City in Riyadh from July 7 to August 24 of that year. The agreement was signed virtually, on an interactive digital platform that the release described as a first of its kind.

The title of the release placed it under sports tourism. The January 2026 release of the foundation counted more than 3 million visitors to the 2025 event and its festival in Riyadh.

The direction of travel is what differs most. In 2025 the airline's offers were meant to bring visitors into Saudi Arabia for a tournament played there. In 2026 the release describes flights that take the people of the event, and part of its public, from Riyadh to a competition played in France.
The airline behind the logo
Saudia describes itself in the release as the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, founded in 1945, and as one of the largest airlines of the Middle East. It gives its fleet as 153 aircraft, against 148 in the release of July 2025, and its network as about 100 destinations on four continents. The airline is a member of the SkyTeam alliance and of the International Air Transport Association, the release adds.
The airline category now exists at the Esports World Cup for a second year in a row, with the same holder. What the holder buys is an audience as much as a place at the venue. The foundation's January release gave the reach of the 2025 edition: 750 million viewers and 350 million hours watched, a peak of 7.98 million people watching at the same moment during the League of Legends tournament, and coverage on 28 platforms through 97 broadcast partners, in 35 languages.

On July 8, the foundation published a media partnership with France Televisions, the French public broadcaster, built around a daily program about the event.
Neither the value nor the length of the airline deal is public
The release gives one duration only: the two years during which the aircraft keeps its livery. The Esports Advocate reported that the financial terms and the length of the official-airline designation were not disclosed.
What remains of the Paris edition
The announcement comes with the event under way. The Esports World Cup as a whole has been running since early July, and its Dota 2 tournament was played from July 7 to 19. The event continues through August 23, which leaves a little more than a month of daily flights on the Riyadh to Paris route under the terms of the release.
The foundation's figures for the edition are those it has given since January: more than 2,000 players and 200 clubs from over 100 countries, 25 tournaments across 24 games, and prize money of more than US$75 million, which the release calls record-breaking. The 2025 release put that year's total above US$70 million, for an event of the same size: 25 competitions in 24 games, about 2,000 players and 200 clubs. The clubs also compete across games for the Club Championship, the ranking that the foundation's January release endows with US$30 million, shared among the 24 best clubs, with US$7 million for the first.
Among the tournaments still to come is the Counter-Strike 2 competition, set for August 12 to 23 with 32 teams and US$2 million, according to HLTV. For Saudia, the weeks until then are the period in which the daily flights, the lounge broadcasts and the Fortnite competition announced on July 21 are in use. The two years that follow belong to the aircraft alone.
