MOUZ has filled the empty seats of its Counter-Strike 2 academy team. The club announced two signings for MOUZ NXT on Friday, July 10, 2026, HLTV, the Counter-Strike news site, reported that afternoon. With them, the youth team has five players again for the first time since the spring.

An academy team is a development roster. It carries the club's name, plays in lower-level competitions and prepares young players for the top level. MOUZ, a club based in Hamburg that also fields teams in Dota 2, Teamfight Tactics and sim racing, has run one in Counter-Strike under the name MOUZ NXT for years, and several of the players who have carried its main team came through it.

The two newcomers join opdust, ay0k and Nikodeon, the three players who had been left on the roster, under the coach lmbt. HLTV wrote that MOUZ NXT had not played a match since May.

How the academy fell to three

The academy lost two of its five players in the first half of the year, for opposite reasons. One left the lineup, the other moved up.

The first was Joey. HLTV reported that he was benched in March. A benched player stays under contract but no longer plays; the club may then loan him, sell him or let him go. Joey stayed in that position until June, when he moved to Sangal, according to the same report.

The second was xelex, and his departure was a promotion. On April 18, MOUZ overhauled its main team: it moved Brollan and Jimpphat to the bench, brought in jL on a short-term loan from Natus Vincere and took xelex up from MOUZ NXT into the first five. A promotion is the purpose of an academy, but it leaves a hole in the team that produced the player.

At that point MOUZ NXT had three players, two fewer than the five a Counter-Strike team needs on the server. The roster stayed at three until July.

A season finished with stand-ins

The team still had matches to play, and it completed them with stand-ins, players brought in for a limited run of matches without joining the roster. HLTV names two of them, brought in to finish out the season: Flierax and AiyvaN.

AiyvaN was not a player of the team in the usual sense. HLTV describes him as a scout and analyst for MOUZ NXT, one of the staff members who watch other players and prepare the team's games, and he took a place on the server himself to complete the five. Since May, the academy has not played at all, the report says.

HLTV's world ranking, a weekly table built from each team's results, shows where the months without a full roster have left the academy. In the ranking of July 6, the last one before the signings, MOUZ NXT stood 203rd in the world.

The same table measures the distance to the club's own first team. On July 6, MOUZ was tenth and MOUZ NXT 203rd, a gap of 193 places. The academy sits outside the top 200, a long way from the level its graduates are meant to reach.

The two signings were announced without a first event. AiyvaN wrote on X that players with that kind of potential are hard to find, and that he looked forward to seeing them in official matches soon. HLTV's page gives no date for their debut.

The coach who came back

The five will work under lmbt, who has coached MOUZ NXT since the summer of 2025. MOUZ announced his return on July 3, 2025, in a post on its own site. The seat was free: TOBIZ, the academy's coach for close to three and a half years, had left to become head coach of HEROIC on June 28, 2025, five days earlier, HLTV reported at the time.

It was a return in the full sense. According to the club, lmbt coached its main Counter-Strike team from 2016 to 2019. The titles of that period that MOUZ lists include ESL One New York 2018, the V4 Future Sports Festival 2018, StarLadder Season 4 and ESG Tour Mykonos 2017. The club also credits him with giving ropz his first chance on a professional stage as a teenager. After MOUZ, lmbt coached HellRaisers and forZe, and then Monte, before coming back.

"MOUZ always felt like home and I'm happy to be back home and work with everyone involved," he said in the club's announcement.

The same post set out what MOUZ expects of the academy. The club described MOUZ NXT as more than an academy team: an incubator for future Counter-Strike players, where coaching prepares young players both mechanically and mentally. It counted four titles in the WePlay Academy League, a league for academy teams, and called its program widely considered the most successful talent development system in the game. That is the club's own assessment.

What the academy has produced

The track record MOUZ describes can be read in the lineups of the top teams. In its report on the signings, HLTV names five players who came through MOUZ NXT: xertioN, Jimpphat, torzsi, siuhy and PR.

Three of them have carried MOUZ's own first team this year. xertioN and torzsi were in the five of the spring, and xertioN took over the in-game calling in April, the role of the player who decides the team's tactics during a match. Jimpphat played beside them until the April overhaul. siuhy and PR left the club and built their careers at other teams.

Jimpphat's path shows how long the route can take. HLTV wrote on July 2 that he joined MOUZ NXT in May 2022, won a WePlay Academy League trophy with it and was promoted to the main team in July 2023. With the first five he won two editions of the ESL Pro League, BB Dacha and PGL Cluj-Napoca, and HLTV placed him 17th in its list of the 20 best players of 2024. He averaged a 1.10 rating with the main team, the single figure HLTV computes from each player's statistics.

The academy has also supplied staff and players to other clubs. Its former coach TOBIZ went straight from MOUZ NXT to the head coach's seat at HEROIC, his first job at the top level, which he held until HEROIC replaced him on July 6, 2026. Neityu, who later spent almost 18 months at ENCE, also came up through the academy, HLTV has reported.

The main team it feeds

The signings come in a month of departures for MOUZ's first team. On July 2, the club announced that Jimpphat was no longer under contract, ending more than four years with MOUZ across its youth and main teams. Six days later he was talking to HLTV about a new start at Aurora. On July 7, MOUZ announced the departure of Brollan after two and a half years. He had joined early in 2024 on loan from Ninjas in Pyjamas and had become a permanent member by the middle of that year, HLTV recalled.

Both had been on the bench since the April overhaul. Of the five that played the spring before it, torzsi, xertioN and Spinx remain, with xelex beside them since April and sycrone as coach. jL had come from Natus Vincere on a short-term loan in April.

Of torzsi, xertioN, Spinx and xelex, three came through the academy: xertioN and torzsi as graduates of earlier years, xelex by promotion three months ago. The team that produced them had, until this week, only three players of its own.

MOUZ NXT had to give up a player to the main team before it could sign two of its own.

What the five have to rebuild

The new MOUZ NXT starts close to zero. Its three remaining players have been without official matches for about two months, its two signings have yet to play in MOUZ colors, and it stood 203rd in the world ranking of July 6.

The roster HLTV printed on July 10 is opdust, ay0k and Nikodeon, the two newcomers, and lmbt as coach. No captain, in-game leader or first tournament has been announced.

Worth knowing

A scout on the server, for want of players

To finish its season, MOUZ NXT fielded AiyvaN, a member of its own staff, as a stand-in. The two signings end that arrangement: for the first time since April, the academy has five players of its own.

The club has kept lmbt, its coach since 2025, and the name under which xertioN, torzsi and xelex came through. No date has been given for the new five's first official match.
